Same Day Crown

A same-day crown beautifies your smile while restoring teeth that are broken, weak, or even missing. At Image Dental in Stockton, California, Stephen Nozaki, DDS, MPH, DIDIA, uses CEREC® technology to deliver long-lasting crowns in a single appointment. To schedule a consultation for same-day crowns, call the office or book online today.

What is a same-day crown?

A same-day crown is a cap that covers and protects a tooth, while also being shaped to look like the tooth in its original form. A crown can also go over a dental implant, which acts as an artificial root for the new tooth.

Same-day crowns are unique because the process of getting one happens in just one appointment at Image Dental. Using Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC®) technology, the Image Dental team creates a personalized crown fit to your mouth’s proportions and personal specifications.

The team first takes photographic impressions of your individual tooth and bite using an intraoral camera. This produces a 3D image of your mouth that the Image Dental team uses to make a crown that looks uniform with your other teeth and feels comfortable when you bite and chew. They also color-match your new crown to the rest of your teeth.

When might I need a same-day crown?

Same-day crowns can repair, reinforce, or replace teeth under a number of circumstances. At Image Dental, the team routinely uses CEREC same-day crowns to treat:

  • Missing teeth (with a bridge dental implant)
  • A tooth after a root canal
  • Weak teeth
  • Broken teeth
  • Teeth with large fillings

When you get a crown to cover a tooth that’s still there, the crown can potentially save the tooth from falling out or needing an extraction. The crown covers all surfaces of the tooth above the gum line, including the front, back, and biting surface.

How do I care for my same-day crown?

A same-day crown will enjoy its longest possible lifespan if you take great care of the crown itself and your overall oral health. Fortunately, caring for a crown isn’t complicated at all. In fact, you treat it just like you would treat your natural teeth.

You need to keep your mouth clean while you have a crown to avoid getting dental complications such as dental decay, which can still impact the tooth under a crown, or gum disease. Caring for a crown involves:

  • Twice daily brushing
  • Flossing around and between teeth
  • Avoiding hard and sticky foods
  • Avoiding absentminded habits like biting your nails or chewing on pencils
  • Using a nightguard if you grind your teeth
  • Coming in for regular professional checkups

During each of your visits to Image Dental, the team looks over your crown to make sure it isn’t worn or broken. They can replace crowns that are overly worn, broken, or fallen off the tooth.
